Where are YOU right now?

Nehemiah 9 : 9-12
9 "You saw the suffering of our forefathers in Egypt; you heard their cry at the Red Sea. 10 You sent miraculous signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name for yourself, which remains to this day. 11 You divided the sea before them, so that they passed through it on dry ground, but you hurled their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into mighty waters. 12 By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light on the way they were to take.

Today the sermon was about where we are right now.

In Egypt? At the Red Sea? In the wilderness?

A. "In your bondage, I will deliver you!"
Egypt is synonymous to bondage and slavery. And yet we see here that God saw "the suffering of our forefathers in Egypt" and He delivered them through "miraculous signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land. I'm sure most Christians know about how God delivered His people out of the land of Egypt into freedom and liberation.
However, there are 2 things that hinder us from being delivered:
1. Denial : Oftentimes, people deny that they are in bondage. Besides the bondage referring to those who have yet to known Christ, it also refers to the bondage of sins and strongholds in our lives. (spiritual bondage) We need to recognise that we need Jesus as our bondage breaker.
2. Deception: Oftentimes, people say "I can free myself from bondage". Right. If it were that easy, we really don't need God, or the Holy Spirit. The way to break free from sin is to recognise that we can't break free ourselves.
"In my Egypt, set me free."

B. "In your distress, I will provide for you!"
God heard their cry at the Red Sea. Standing in the shoes of the Israelites, facing the Red Sea before them, and the Egyptian army behind them, they faced immense distressed. Having received a great blessing from God through their exodus, they are brought to a place where they became disappointed in Him. The Red Sea is symbolic of a place of disappointment where we don't know where to turn, where to go. But in v11, we see the power of God in providing a way out for them.
1. Denial: Sometimes in situations of distress and pain and disappointment, we deny the existence of God.
2. Deception: Or we say "yes, there is a God, but He doesn't care for me. He cares for others, but not me."
Let us not believe in these lies, for God has always been faithful and He loves each and every one of us.
"At my Red Sea, provide for me."

C. "In your confusion, I will guide you!"
"By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light on the way they were to take. " Let God lead you in your confusion, in your wilderness. When we don't know where to go, don't light your own fire. Wait upon the Lord. Don't grasp around in the darkness. For God guides:
1. Compassionately (God guided the Israelites because He knew they needed direction, else they would remain lost)
2. Constantly (by day and by night)
3. Clearly (pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night)
"In my wilderness, guide me."

Where are YOU right now?
Whereever you are, climb your mountain and encounter God. Come to the realization of how great God is.

God is not too small.
