She asked me for my "assessment" of the issue, i told her what I thought and she disagreed.
So I agreed with her disagreement and told her I'd do it her way.
End of story.
Conflict avoided.
Sometimes its really easier that way. True, we want our voices to be heard, our opinions to be considered. But in the larger scheme of things, sometimes just going with the flow makes things a whole lot smoother and faster. I mean, what for get into an unpleasant situation when you're going to be working with that person in such close proximity? Afterall, standing up for your point of view ain't going to change any decision made.
There comes a point in time when I get really irritated when people keep associating me with her. I'm not her secretary, not Number 2, not the next in command. I would seriously appreciate it if people stop asking me where she is whenever she's not around. I'm not her personal assistant. I don't plan her activities. The other day, someone at a course asked me "where's she?", i snapped back "How would I know? She doesn't report to me."
Sometimes I get quite amazed at the assumptions people make when things are not said. The way people assume that things are wonderful and rosy and cheery.
On Friday I nearly lost it. "Just change it" she said, when I highlighted that making that decision would clash with our briefing with the students. The way it was changed just like that, and I had to do all the fire-fighting with rescheduling and everything.
Sometimes, I feel that when big boss was around, things were easier.
I hope we'd have a new big boss soon.

i understand how you feel, Shir and i have to say you're not alone. i have been talking with a few people privately and similar things came up... different issues we have with L and C but still centered around the same sentiment that we were all very much happier when S was around.
i don't know how come things have become this way.
