words and actions

Sometimes i think its amazing how it is that one can act in a certain way though one speaks differently. Like how one can say "i care", or "they care"... but no actions of care has been demonstrated at all. Like how one can say "i respect", when all has been spoken were disrespectful words. How easily it is that one is able to pick out the faults of others, just because how the other person acted/behaved/responded differently that what one expects. In my working environment, I've come to realised that different people have different personalities and working styles, and I try to work with them the best I know how. But who i am intrisically cannot change. Neither would i expect them to change. it just wouldn't work. So we try to be accomodating, and civil and task-focused. And that works well. Though sometimes we complain a bit about a certain someone's work attitude, but beneath it all, we know what underlies that person is a good person. And we manage. We manage to get the project done, the assignment complete. We can't be friends with everyone, but God made people different, with different gifts and personality and character. And its all about making adjustments to yourself...rather than expecting the other party to accomodate your style. If only everyone can see that.

Sometimes people fail to see that one's attitudes can sometimes be affected by situations, mood, events, and are quick to judge, quick to draw their own conclusions.

A paradigm shift is thus required.

I thought about paradigm shifts during a course on the 7 habits of Effective People. About how sometimes as teachers, we may get upset when a student is late for class. we scold him for being irresponsible, for not obeying the rules, for being disruptive. But then, if we really knew his problem.... that perhaps he's from a broken family, that perhaps every night he comes home to face arguements from his parents, perhaps someone in his family just passed on, perhaps the financial situation at home calls for him to work after school.. perhaps anger towards him would be the last thing we'd feel.

A paradigm shift.

Either you feel downcast, lost, a day wasted, a day over, time running out. Cos that is what sun set brings.

Or you can see sun set as how the Jews saw it, as a new day, a time to rest. A time to get together. A chance again tomorrow.
