Let our hands do the talking

I had a ball of a time last night. There was a SL gathering of about ten people. There were freddie, jimmy, kelvin (our hearing impaired friends), xiuwen, yilin, eileen, sam, surene, kezia and me. It was really funny chatting, signing, sharing stories over pizza and juice. freddie is a really fun person to be around, coz he's very dramatic (reminds me of em..hahaha) and full of humor. We spent hours trying to solve some mental puzzles which he was dishing out, til about 11.30pm. :)

The wonderful thing was that our instructors (f & k) knew that we can't catch up with their signing fast enough, so they'd always repeat themselves, or sign slower, or use gestures to accompany their signing. Or when jimmy signs too fast or uses a lot of local and customized sign language, kelvin would try to explain to us what he's saying using SEE. I also realised that it's a very natural thing for our deaf friends to ask us to help them place their orders.

Honestly, people who see us seated together would not be able to tell who's deaf and who's not until of course, our hands start to do the talking.
