every morning this week, i've been coming to school seeing a wider and wider area of the foyer being cordoned off with a red and white tape (macham like murder site). It's becoming so wide that students are only given a teeny weeny width of space to walk through.
they might as well close the school, so students don't have to come to school. If no students, then the school will not be dirtied and remain absolutely spotless.
massive facade cleaning. watering of plants. I'm waiting to see potted plants and displays materialise out of the blue.
and why? coz there's a V V V I P coming to visit our school. our absolutely spotless and clean school, with wonderfully green flourishing plants. I think they imagine he's going to walk to the windows, stick out his finger and feel for dust. or maybe peer at the glass doors to look for fingerprint stains.
I'm so excited waiting to see the entourage that follows and the wonderful circus act.

to be expected. People like to put up shows.. be it schools, saf, constituencies...think VIPs shouldn't announce their arrivals in the future.
It's all about face. And respect. That you've made an effort to clean up your house to welcome the guest. So that he doesn't think you don't think he's unimportant. It's about not wanting to look bad or lose face in front of someone who means a lot to you.
who is this VVVVVip???
why do you think i left my previous work place? can you imagine doing this everyday?! shallow though it may seem, what's on the surface is always important to most people.
which reminds me of the time i almost saw xian long.. i was attending a class at this NTUC hub thingy, den 1 fine morning, it was flooded with ppl, with police and metal detectors scanning everyone..
incidentally, i walked past and the detector went off. naturally i offered to be checked, but the police jus waved me off with a bored look
